Is The Strathwood St. Thomas Fire Pit More Than Just An Attractive Table?
This product is no longer available.
Enjoying a nice alfresco dinner in the evening requires two important elements, a great table to eat on and some kind of heat source – and that is precisely what the Strathwood St. Thomas Cast-Aluminum Fire Pit with Table aims to offer.
This all-weather table has a 42 inch diameter and a central fire pit containing a 22 x 7 inch fire bowl, black grate and a mesh dome to prevent sparks.
The photos of this Strathwood fire pit and its scrolling vine motif certainly make it seem as though it would be an attractive addition to your patio furniture and a great place to eat but what is it really like and is there a worthwhile function behind these aesthetics?
Is this more than just a good looking table? What advantages have been noted with this Strathwood St Thomas Fire Pit?
There is no getting away from the fact that this is an attractive product and, in addition to reviews that highlight the way that it looks more expensive than it really is, this fire pit is enhanced by its recessed fire bowl, which is made from a bright copper, and the fact that it is designed to be rust resistant.
There has been the odd comment about the intensity and look of the bronze highlights and silver “flecking” and the exact shade of the metal – some wanted black and got gunmetal instead – but there is a good sense from the user testimonials that the product received generally does look like the pictures shown.
The other major benefit of this Strathwood fire pit is the concept of it being a fire pit and table in one. There really is a sense of functionality behind the style and buyers reports some great additional features.
The style gives people the impression that it is a solid metal table but the use of aluminium makes it is lighter than expected – just 44 pounds – and this means it is not too heavy to construct or move.
On top of this, the nice transformation into a standard table, via the centre plate, easily accommodates six people for an evening family meal and it its relatively easy to assemble…that is when all the pieces are present and in working order.
Why could assembly be an an issue and does this Strathwood firepit have any other problems that buyers should be aware of?
From reading user testimonials, it becomes clear that this fire pit left customers wondering how there can be so many errors with the parts and construction when so much thought has obviously gone into the final look and function.
There are a number of minor construction and sizing errors such as an occasional warping of the legs, which has led to an uneven finish and difficult assembly, a lack of screws and parts and the fact that the grill and the copper bowl do not appear to be the right size – the bowl being slightly too big to fit into the hole.
It is worth noting here that not all consumers share these experiences; one group has had the exact same problem with the bowl and the subsequent replacements while others say it fitted perfectly.
Other factors to bear in mind are that there is no drainage in the bowl so it can collect water, some buyers feel it is a little too short for a dining table at 22.5 inches high and the product can get quite hot.
These issues are arguably minor and partly down to preferences but an alarming comment about melting shoes means that the latter at least is worth considering.
Summary: is is worth taking a risk with this Strathwood St. Thomas Fire Pit?
There is a little bit of a gamble over whether you will end up with a 5 star or 4 star product here; it seems that no matter what, you will end up with an attractive, dual-functioning product but you may not be so lucky with the fit and the quality of the parts.
It is this lack of attention to detail and the strange inconsistencies that are the main issue with this product but it is arguably still worth the risk because of the finished product. If you are looking for an attractive, functional fire pit that doubles up as a dining table, and you do not mind the potential flaws, this Strathwood fire pit is highly recommendable.
